WHAT'S IN SEASON?

WE'VE GOT YOU COVERED ALL YEAR LONG!

Grand Rising is located in Hardiness Zone 9. It is important to know and consider your hardiness zone when planning your garden. This information should be used to determine which plants can withstand the minimum cold temperatures of the area. Although our winters are not extremely harsh, there are some plants that will not survive the low temperatures we experience in January and February. There are other plants that need cold temperatures for a period of time and it will not get cold enough for a long enough period of time here for them to grow well. Be sure to choose plants that will do well in Zone 9.

BEETS

Winter

Beets are a cool weather crop that can be planted in Zone 9 throughout the winter. And don't forget, you can eat the leaves as well as the root. Other vegetables you may want to plant during the winter include kale and carrots. These are plants that can typically withstand our mild winters.

Peppers

Spring

Spring is a great time to add peppers and tomatoes to your garden. Both of these come in lots of varieties and will add a burst of color to your garden. Other crops to plant in the spring include sweet potatoes and cantaloupes.

Eggplants

Summer

Eggplant tends to thrive in temperatures above 90 degrees making it a good summer crop. Eggplants also thrive in the heat making it a good choice for the summer.

Lettuce

Fall

Fall is a good time to plant lettuce and you have lots to choose from. Onions are another good choice. However, make sure you have the short to intermediate day length onion varieties as these are better suited for the Zone 9 climate.
